Software Softie

I am in love.

With MasterCook Deluxe v9.0.

Oh man. I did a bunch of research before acquiring a recipe organizing program, and it was worth it. I ran into three major complaints about MasterCook, none of which really affect me at the moment. The first is that it's hard to switch your files over to a new computer. The woman who said that has been using MasterCook for ten years and has entered thousands of recipes (!), though, so presumably she's switched it at least once. I'm not terribly concerned with this at the moment, though. My computer's pretty new. Cross that bridge when I come to it.

The next was that it's hard to delete the (thousands of) recipes that come with the program. I copied and pasted them all into one cookbook, which I called MasterCookBook (I'm cute), and had no problem deleting the original cookbooks, although it was kind of a process.

The last was from the school of "If Books Are Good, Technology is Bad." All of these people said things along the lines of "The only digital tool I use in the kitchen is Chow.com, tee hee!" Gag. I'm using software because I love my books, not instead of them. I have first editions! From the 60s! With dust jackets! Cooking is gross and gets books gross and to be very honest I would rather get oil splatters on my keyboard than on my first edition Escoffier, thanks.

Anyway, so far, so good. As soon as I get a printer I fully intend to start printing out custom cookbooks as presents. *drool*

(PS I did write an entry on Din Ho, but forgot to publish it. Now I have to change the tense. Patience, virgin.)
