Lists: Holiday Books: Cooking

I get Jessica's Biscuit's emailed newsletter, and they just sent me one with a link to the most confusing holiday/year end list ever from The New York Times. The little blurb at the top claims it originally ran in 2006, but was published yesterday, and also includes books that weren't out in 2006, like Ruhlman's new book. So take this as you will. Not nearly as ballsy as the London Times list from last week, plus they actually recommend Padma Lakshmi's new cookbook, which, from my brief perusal of it at Book People and also pretty much every review I've read of it, contains recipes that mostly sound disgusting. But hey! She's hot? If you're into robots? I guess?

The 2006 is a typo--it should say books published in 2007. This list is an addendum to the main holiday cookbook buying guide published in the NYTimes Book Review on Sunday (The link to the main article is at the top of the page). The main review was much more interesting to me, with an emphasis on British cooking.

Hard to understand how Padma could be on the same list as Anne Willan and Deborah Madison, isn't it?

Aha. That makes sense.

I wrote something up about the other article that should go up sometime today. I just couldn't figure out how/if the two were related, seeing as there's also the review of Simon Hopkinson's cookbook in the Food section. All this Anglophilia gets me twisted around, I guess.
