I've decided to slightly expand the defining terms of this blog to include more subject matter. While it will still be a repository for my cookbook reviews, I go through them (cookbooks) too slowly to develop any kind of steady updating habit. So, the new terms are loosely based on the concept of bookish cooking topics, which is to say anything I damn well feel like writing about. I will continue to be solely text based. Get your food porn elsewhere.

I have recently decided to go on something similar to...what, I don't know, a fast? That's not quite right. I'm only cooking from recipes. This is because I've made some seriously shitty food this summer, and I need to go back to practicing scales, as it were. I have thus become obsessed with food blogs and the possibility of maintaining a recipe database that will churn out grocery lists at my bidding. I've heard MasterCook is good, but I've also heard there's a way to do it in OpenOffice that is even better. I can't find a tutorial or anything for the OpenOffice thing, though, and I have to admit OpenOffice confuses the crap out of me.

In any case, I have so far cooked the following: Betty Crocker's Quick Cinnamon Rolls (gross), The Joy of Cooking's Meatloaf II (good if old-fashioned and a little mushy) and Creamy Tomato Soup (good, and a technique I had never seen before that basically involved making a really, really thin white sauce).
